Welcome to the FAQ page! Here, I’ve compiled answers to some of the most common questions about my counselling services. If you don’t see your question here or need further information, please don’t hesitate to get in touch—I’m happy to help.

What is person-centred counselling?

Person-centred counselling is a therapeutic approach that focuses on you as the expert of your own life. It’s built on the belief that you have the inner resources and capacity for growth and change. My role is to provide a safe, non-judgmental,  non-advice-giving and supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at your own pace.

What issues can counselling help with?

I provide support for a wide range of challenges, including:

  • Anxiety and stress

  • Depression and low mood

  • Grief and loss

  • Relationship difficulties

  • LGBTQIA+ identity and experiences

  • Self-esteem and self-confidence

  • Life transitions

If you’re unsure whether counselling can help with your specific situation, feel free to contact me to discuss your needs.

How do I get started?

The first step is to book a free 20-minute telephone consultation. This is an opportunity for us to discuss what’s brought you to counselling, answer any questions you may have, and see if we’re a good fit. If you decide to proceed, we’ll schedule your first session.

What happens in a session?

Each session lasts 50-60 minutes and takes place in a confidential, supportive environment. You’ll have the space to talk openly about whatever’s on your mind. As a person-centred counsellor, I’ll listen without judgment, offering empathy and understanding to help you explore your feelings and gain clarity.

What types of sessions do you offer?

I offer three types of sessions to suit your needs:

  • Face-to-Face Counselling: Held in a private, comfortable setting.

  • Online Counselling: Sessions via secure video call, allowing you to connect from anywhere.

  • Telephone Counselling: A flexible option for those who prefer voice calls or don’t have access to video platforms.

How much do sessions cost?

The cost of a session is £45 and I offer a discount for block booking sessions. Payment details and options will be discussed during the consultation or you can find further details here.

Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?

Yes, I offer a range of appointment times, including one evening per week, to accommodate busy schedules. Availability may vary, so please contact me to discuss a time that works for you.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions depends on your individual needs and goals. Some clients find a few sessions helpful for gaining clarity on a specific issue, while others prefer ongoing support over a longer period. There’s no pressure—you’re in control of how long you choose to continue counselling.

Is counselling confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a fundamental part of the counselling process. Everything you share will remain private, except in rare circumstances where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or if required by law. These exceptions will be explained during the consultation.

Do I need to prepare anything for the sessions?

No preparation is necessary. Just come as you are, and bring whatever feels most important to you. The sessions are your space to explore your thoughts and feelings without pressure or expectation.

What if I feel nervous about starting counselling?

Feeling nervous is completely normal, especially if this is your first time seeking counselling. The free telephone consultation is a great way to ease into the process, ask questions, and get a feel for what working together might be like. Remember, this is your space, and we’ll go at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
